Marondera Municipality has started renovating its water and sewer reticulation systems using the devolution funds disbursed by the government.
With $330 million allocated to Marondera Municipality as devolution funds, about $31 million has been put to good use in buying modular tanks, water reticulation network pipes, and rehabilitating sewage pump stations in areas like Cherutombo.
Marondera Municipality’s mayor, His Worship, Cllr Nyahuye, showed his gratitude to the government and said, “We want to thank our government for disbursing devolution funds which will see the improvement of town, especially in areas where there are water and sewer challenges.”
He also indicated that the devolution funds have since reduced the toll on ratepayers since the funds are now catering for costs that would have been covered by revenue collected from residents. “Some of the pipes procured using devolution funds were supposed to be bought using money from ratepayers.” He spoke.
